Events 2026
A good start just after a storm. A beautiful wintery day
Malta faced a cold, icy winter night last Friday as the club held its first run of 2026. Saturday morning came as a complete surprise, with roads blanketed in white hail, casting doubt on whether the Sunday run could go ahead. Lo and behold, Sunday morning broke partly cloudy yet still cold, but good enough to fire up our engines for an early 7:00 a.m. ignition.
Those who managed to venture out headed towards the northern part of the island. Although most country roads wind through valleys, conditions remained dry and suitable for driving. The route led us to Armier, where we were also treated to the sight of many other automobiles, showcasing a wide variety of styles and eras.

25th January 2026. The MG Car Club Malta hosted its Annual General Meeting at the Filarmonic Marija Annunzjata Balzan, welcoming members for a morning steeped in fellowship and a shared appreciation of classic British motoring.
Members gathered from 08:30 for coffee and conversation, setting a relaxed and convivial tone ahead of the formal proceedings, which commenced at 09:00hrs. Throughout this time, and indeed for the entire event, the club’s Technical Officer, Frank Mallia, played a key role in ensuring that all arrangements were meticulously prepared and that the meeting ran smoothly from start to finish.
Club Secretary Sandro Zammit then formally opened proceedings, welcoming those present and introducing Club President Joseph Casapinta, who delivered an address reflecting on the club’s achievements over the past year and the road ahead. Treasurer Gordon Gilford followed with the presentation of the club’s financials, confirming a stable and healthy outlook for the club.
Looking firmly towards future motoring adventures, Jonathan Vella, supported by Ray Agius, presented the Events Programme for 2026, outlining a calendar designed to keep MGs on the road and their owners firmly behind the wheel.
A highlight of the morning was the presentation of the President’s Award to Stephen Pace, recognising his dedication, commitment, and valued contribution to the MG Car Club Malta.
The meeting concluded in true British tradition, as members gathered to enjoy a full English breakfast, rounding off the morning with lively conversation, shared stories, and the unmistakable Friendship that defines the MG Car Club

MG Car Club Malta – Valentine’s Scenic Southern Run
The morning began in silence, the kind of stillness that only a February dawn can hold. Drivers waking up to their polished passion and those who not only wanted to bring along a friend or family member, also managed to wake up their better half early too.
At 08:00am, the chill over Marsa cut clean through the air. Breath turned to mist. Chrome gleamed under pale sunlight, shining armour and spit shined black accents, all for one goal. One by one, MG engines stirred to life near The Millenia, breaking the quiet with that unmistakable MG growl, warm, mechanical and reassuring.
The Valentine’s Run, postponed due to weather conditions, now not forgotten, was finally underway.
As the cars rolled south, the island awakened around us. Golden light spilled across terraced fields. The Mediterranean shimmered in the distance. Each curve of the winding road revealed another breathtaking vista, cliffs meeting sea, stone walls tracing the countryside, heritage landmarks standing proud against a brilliant blue sky.
There were moments of exhilaration on open stretches, moments of precision through twisting bends and countless shared glances between drivers who understand that an MG is not merely driven, it is an roaring experience.
The cold of dawn gave way to the warmth of the sun. Jackets loosened. Smiles widened. The rhythm of engines blended with the rhythm of the road, and for a 45 minutes nothing else mattered
The journey found its gentle finale in Marsaskala, where breakfast awaited at Zion. Coffee cups clinked, laughter echoed, and stories of tight corners and scenic straights were retold with growing enthusiasm, all looking forward for the next event.
Every route is more than a drive.
Bringing together for Friendship.
It is a heritage in motion.
The spirit of MG is alive and thriving under the Maltese sun the Octagon shines

THE WIN OVER THE WEATHERMAN
From the day before, message exchange had the magic question as to whether the event was still on. So here we are, Sunday morning, a bruised charcoal sky, a heavy and damp scented air of an impending storm. March 22nd, the rescheduled date, and once again, the heavens seemed determined to play and spoil.
Text messages flew back and forth with Rotta’s Matthew Camilleri, a digital flurry of weather radar screenshots and nervous anticipation as water was flooding in Hal Far.
For the purists who treat their mg’s undercarriage like a fine timepiece, the forecast was a nightmare. Yet, for the die hards of the MGCCM, the allure for a drive outweighed the fear of a few water spots.
As the engines rumbled to life at the Technopark Car Park, the first defiant drops began to fall. One by one, they turned into a steady and rhythmic drizzle. But there was no turning back now!
The drive to Mercury Tower became a baptism of sorts. In a display of true mechanical grit, the pragmatists flicked on brand-new wipers, watching them slice through the mist with clinical precision. Slowly but surely drying up screens, the adventurers felt the bite of fresh rubber as their new tyres gripped the glistening, slick asphalt and obviously the occasional pot hole, the purists simply hunkered down under their soft-tops, treating the rain as nothing more than a minor atmospheric detail some describing their cockpit as becoming smaller. Ah the joys of carrying more weight at the waist.
Against all odds, the Rotta Mercury Static Car Show transformed into a triumph of steel and spirit. Beneath the overcast sky, the vibrant reds, deep greens, old whites polished chromes and rubber of the mgs stood shoulder-to-shoulder with a curated brotherhood of Minis, Mx5s, and Hondas.
The damp pavement only served to reflect the silhouettes of these machines, doubling the visual impact for the crowds that gathered. The atmosphere was electric, not from the clouds above, but from the shared passion of owners swapping stories under an occasional sunshine, their laughter echoing against the roar of arriving engines.
As the show drew to a mid-day and the adrenaline began to simmer, many enthusiasts retreated from the elements to celebrate their victory over the weatherman. A most enjoyable lunch where the chill of the outdoors was replaced by the warmth of good company and aromatic alates. Over the clinking of cutlery and the hum of conversation, the decision was clear: a little water couldn't dampen the soul of the Mg Car Club Malta.
Thank you, Rotta, for a day that proved MGs don't just run on petrol, they run deep down from the heart with a passion.
